A Sample Order of Service

Sunday, October 4, 2009

The sun rose at 6:44 and will set at 6:22.
The moon was full at 1:10 this morning.
The full moon of October is known as the Harvest Moon.
On average, the moon rises 50 minutes later every night.
But at mid-northern latitudes, the Harvest Moon
rises only 25 to 30 minutes later for several evenings in a row.
Making up for the autumn season’s waning daylight,
the Harvest Moon provides several nights of dusk-till-dawn moonlight,
making it easier to gather crops.
For Jews Sukkot runs till sundown on Friday.
During Sukkot, outdoor structures are raised to remind Jews
of the huts they lived in while they were in the wilderness.
For Christians today is St. Francis Day.
St. Francis is the patron saint of animals and ecology.

Flowers this Sunday are given by Lydia Thayer
in memory of her late husband, Edward B. Landreth.
