Our current web page is indebted to the contributions of many at First Parish.

  • Over the summer of 2007 a small group collaborated to provide a fresh look for our website.  Alyson Schultz provided the basic design and the color palattes for our different sections.  Alyson has also worked with the RE director and committee to provide a full redo of the Religious Education section.  David Landskov worked with navigation aids — our left navigation bar with highlights and the accompanying pullout menus.  These features require the enabling of javascript in your browser and David provides a help page for getting the best use of our site.  Cheri Minton has worked with David to bring content from our site into the new format.  The mail forward "webeditor" reaches both Cheri and David.
  • David Landskov is working with committee news — email him via "webeditor" if you have notes you'd like turned into a web page or set of pages representing your group or committee's work.  David also put his technical skills to work to provide throughout our site pullout menus, navigation bar highlighting, and conversion to XHTML, the latest standard for HTML, the web presentation language.  The images at the bottom of this web page indicate that it has been validated as meeting the standard.  All our other web pages have been validated as well, but do not show the images.
  • For most of the photographs on the site, we thank Larry Osgood, who chronicles many events and makes them available for us on his own site.  Sandy King shared photos of quilts in our then current art wall exhibit.
  • Our staff members, Andrea Caplan and Michael Edge, take time in the flow of their work to send the materials used for updating the site weekly, as does the Spire team, headed by David Desjardins, John Laurenson and Jennifer Davis-Kay, to provide the base for our monthly updates.
  • Our design is a direct descendent of the page created by Carol Seitz several years ago, springing from her earlier design, which we enjoyed for the two years before that.
  • While much has changed, the basic structure of our site still reflects and benefits from the careful work of Neil Schultz, who visited many church web sites deciding on a strategy and design for our page.
  • Michael Prichard has helped us by lending space for our archives of Spires and orders of service, now housed with our other materials on our current host, helping with domain transfers, and providing encouragement and a beginning location for mail forwarding.  Both the Communications/Database and Parish Committees lent valuable support as we made the transition to a new host.
  • Andrew Worthen helped with the mechanics of password protection and with the suggestion that we begin archiving orders of service.
  • Larry Osgood got us started with an initial span of "not for profit free hosting" with Ultranet, and Andy Kobayashi provided the first pages.

Our latest hosting situation provides more physical space than we have had and opportunity for expansion.  There is also the option of giving access to specific sections of the web site, thus making for clear sharing of responsibility.  If you'd like to work on the site, let the web editor know!  Journalistic contributions — write-ups on groups working within First Parish — are very welcome, as are photo essays on special events or topics.  If you have web programming skills and would like to help in making the site more interactive, be in touch and we'll see how we might work together.
