► From the Safety Committee Charter:

While our first goal is to prevent emergencies, we also prepare for them. By asking difficult "what if" questions, we seek to expose safety issues that First Parish may have to confront, then design specific policies to deal with those issues that seem most probable. We strive to provide:

  • a safe environment for congregants, visitors, staff, and tenants,
  • adequate, effective procedures to relocate as needed if our campus becomes unsafe for any reason,
  • and clear policies, practices, and procedures to ensure safe interactions among all individuals on our campus.

► From the UUA website:

Building Security in Churches
Creating a state of security is an ongoing process, and not an endpoint. Shocking events reported in the media can cause congregations to take immediate action on emergency and security issues, but emergency planning is a long-term process. To be effective, it should be undertaken systematically and revised as needed. Regularly updating plans and policies and having training and drills are key to ensuring that people can use what they have learned.
