Religious Education News

Hello Friends,

Happy 2023 to everyone! We hope to see you very soon.

We know that families are very busy this time of year, and that seasonal illnesses are keeping folks close to home. With that in mind we are choosing to begin the winter teaching term a bit later this year, on January 22nd. Until that time we will hold some engaging programs with those who join us. Each week in our One Room Programs the children will share in familiar rituals, discuss our Unitarian Universalist values, build bonds with loving adults, and, most importantly, get to know other UU children! We hope you can join us whenever your very busy schedules allow. You are most welcome!

In accordance with Arlington Public Schools, we strongly encourage children and their parents to wear masks while in the building.

We are very excited about January 8th’s One Room, led by artists and educators Linda Brown and Mary Cummings. Linda will share her amazing puppets so the children can help bring them to life with stories and adventures. The Nursery will be open for babies and toddlers and the PreK Classroom will be open for children aged 3 and 4.  Families should go into the Sanctuary for the beginning of worship to share in familiar rituals and will be dismissed from there. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to guide children to their classrooms and answer any questions you may have. Parents should plan to pick up the children in the Bailey Room at the end of worship.

Also on January 8th: Coming of Age Parent Orientation on Zoom, 7 pm, for parents of 8th grade youth. You will meet our wonderful mentors, learn more about the calendar and upcoming activities, and have a chance to ask questions. The COA program will begin on January 22nd with an outdoor activity – an OWL Prowl at Drumlin Farms.  Tina will send the Zoom link to families in the church database. If you are new and would like your child to participate in this program, please reach out to for the link and to learn more.

On January 15th we will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy in a One Room Program led by Amy Anderson and Rowan Wheeler.  There will be NO evening programs on January 15.

The winter teaching term will begin on January 22nd. Parents will be sent emails regarding our new roster of teachers, upcoming lessons and special events, and ways we will be building community together.

Best Wishes to all our families for a snug and safe new year! As always, if you have any questions regarding our program or upcoming events, please contact or to learn more.

With Love,
