RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

We are winding down the spring teaching term, and hope to see you before we leave for the summer!

During worship this coming Sunday, June 4,  members of our Coming of Age program, eighth graders, will share their credos with the congregation. They have been working with their mentors over the past six months to delve deeper into their spirituality and discuss their beliefs and values. The credos are a culmination of that time together, and we believe their readings will be inspirational for all. We will hold regular programming for children in grades Prek- 3. Children in grades 4 and older are encouraged to stay with their families to be part of the worship experience and to hear from older youth.

Everyone should go into the Sanctuary for the beginning of worship. Younger children will be dismissed from there and will go to their classrooms. Children should bring their coats because most groups will be going outside.

Sunday, June 11 will be the final week of our program year! We will hold classes at the regular time and children and their families are welcome to stay with us following the service for a picnic in the courtyard and have a chance to say goodbye to Tina Schultz, Director of Religious Education, who will be retiring. Fun activities will be available for the children and good food for all!

We are looking ahead to the fall,  and what’s in store for our children and youth. Rev. Stevie Carmody has been hired as the new Minister of Religious Education and he is excited and eager to meet everyone, and to begin a new year together!

How can you help? Please begin thinking NOW about ways you can support our program and our new leader next fall. Perhaps you can co-teach in a Sunday School class. Or,  join in on a non-teaching Sunday for a One Room Program, a hike, or with a special activity. We are re-vamping task forces and the RE Committee to review curriculum and programming. Please reach out to Tina@firstparish.info or RE@firstparish.info to learn more, or find us at coffee hour at a table with sign up sheets later this spring.
