Introduction

Welcome and thank you for joining First Parish’s online activities and meetings.

Many of our meetings take place using “Zoom” which is a collaborative technology designed to help us talk, face to face, with one another.  These instructions are answers to some of the problems we have had to solve so far and we are always interested in your feedback to improve things. Please scroll below for: Zoom Instructions for the iPad, Zoom Instructions for the PC, Zoom Instructions for the Mac, Zoom Instructions for the Mobile Phone. Also — please see below for other tips and resources, including a link to a Zoom Sound support page..

If you have any further technical questions, please drop an email to techhelp@firstparish.info  and we will do our best to answer them as quickly as possible.

Navigating the bar

  • At the bottom of the screen, once you are in,  you see features  bar.  From left to right:
  • Mute:  This will mute sounds picked up by your microphone so that other participants won’t hear your voice or background noise coming from your setting. Keeping mute on until you want to contribute to the meeting is considerate.   You will need to hit “unmute” yourself to speak in the session; a session host cannot do this for you..  (For a brief “unmute” ….. and say your quick bit and release to return to mute.  )
  • Stop Video:  This will stop you sending live video of yourself.  You can supply a photo to Zoom to show when you have video off.   Stopping video will NOT affect the video coming to you.
  • Invite: This is to invite other people into the conference call.  You probably won’t need this for AFTD work.
  • Share: This is not a feature you will need for attending services,  since it will be handled by our service leaders.  However, keep it in mind as you participate in smaller gatherings.  It will allow you to share applications, such as a powerpoint presentation, with the people attending your meeting.
  • Record:  Likely unavailable unless you are an administrator but if it is there, and it lets you select it, you can record the video for later.
  • End Meeting:  This may show as Leave Meeting on your screen unless you are the host.  Click it to leave the meeting; your video will go off and the meeting may continue without you.  The host will have a choice to leave the meeting or to end the meeting.

Tips

  • Webcam is on (live) when you click on the link to join the meeting (unless Administrator changes setting)
  • Options: Speaker View or Gallery View for video screens (top right corner for PC);
  • “Enter Full Screen” or “Exit Full Screen”  (small 4 box icon-top right corner for PC)
  • To view video/webcam of attendees, move cursor above first webcam screen to see options; this is also where you can also hide the video screens
  • To mute and unmute yourself click on the microphone (bottom left corner)
  • Chat feature: type message and press enter; to save the chat as part of the meeting, click “save chat”
  • Click on “stop video” if you don’t want people to see your video/live webcam
  • Attendees can raise their hand (button to raise hand on “Manage Participants” screen)
